Birthday Special: Celebrating Rohit Sharma – The Legacy of the 'Hitman'

BY- Kartikey Tripathi (Haridwar)

On this day, we toast one of Indian cricket’s most illustrious icons — Rohit Sharma, who celebrates his 38th birthday. From scripting iconic victories for Team India to leading Mumbai Indians to record-breaking triumphs in the IPL, Rohit has redefined white-ball greatness like few before him.

With an unmatched blend of grace and power, Rohit holds some of the most jaw-dropping records in cricket, including the highest-ever individual score in ODIs — 264, achieved at the legendary Eden Gardens in 2014. He also became the second-fastest cricketer to surpass 11,000 ODI runs, doing so in just 261 innings — only behind Virat Kohli.

The 2019 World Cup saw Rohit hit five centuries, the most by any batter in a single edition — a record that may stand the test of time. In the IPL arena, he's a six-time champion, winning five titles as captain with MI and one as a player, tying him as the most decorated player in IPL history.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RO!

Rohit Sharma: A White Ball Colossus Engraved With Leadership Skills!

Rohit Sharma’s journey began in Belfast in 2007, but his rise to superstardom came in 2012 when he was promoted as an opener. Since then, he's not just played — he's ruled.

Whether it’s his three double centuries in ODIS, his century-laden 2019 World Cup campaign, or his commanding six IPL titles, Rohit has displayed an elite consistency that separates the great from the legendary. His batting exudes elegance, yet it's laced with the power to take down the fiercest of attacks.

In 2022, Rohit took over the reins of the Indian team from Virat Kohli. What followed was a new era of fearless cricket. Despite a T20 World Cup semi-final loss that year, his leadership style focused on nurturing young talent and building a team culture rooted in confidence and clarity.

The defining moment of his captaincy came in 2024, when he led India to a T20 World Cup triumph, going undefeated throughout the tournament. His blistering 92 off 41 balls vs Australia in the Super 8s was a masterclass in controlled aggression and high-pressure execution.

After lifting the trophy in Barbados, he retired from the T20I format, leaving behind a roadmap for success and an inspired generation.

Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India has witnessed a remarkable resurgence in white-ball cricket. From clinching the Champions Trophy, to going unbeaten en route to lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup, India’s recent ICC journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Across three major global tournaments, Rohit’s side stumbled just once — in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, on that fateful evening in Ahmedabad.

It’s a near-flawless run that speaks volumes about the culture of belief, discipline, and domination that Rohit instilled — a golden chapter in Indian cricket shaped by a captain who led from the front.

That’s what Rohit is all about. Effort and giving it his best shot. Meshed with talent, it has been good enough to give India 2 ICC trophies and Mumbai 5 IPL titles. But then the journey isn’t done yet, and that’s the wish for his birthday. One final time in England. After Australia and a failed BGT, India needs it and Rohit needs it more.

Happy birthday and all the best, Rohit  💙🎂
