Shami would be fully fit before the home Bangladesh tour starting mid October and will rejoin the Indian setup after doing his rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
So, exactly what transpired that, to this date, there is no hope of his return for the remainder of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy? Is it a reoccurrence of the injury, or are the fumes even darker than we can see …..
Let’s move a little to the past when India lost the 1st Test Match in Bangalore against the comparatively weak New Zealand by getting bundled out for a mere 46 runs, later in the post-match press conference when Indian Captain Rohit Sharma Was asked about Shami’s availability he said-
"To be honest, right now, it’s pretty difficult for us to make a call on him, whether he’ll be fit for this series or the Australia series. He recently had swelling on his knee, which was quite unusual,He was in the process of getting fit, getting close to 100 per cent, he had swelling in his knee, that put him back a little bit in his recovery. So, he had to start again. Right now, he’s at NCA, he’s working with the physios and the doctors at NCA,We are keeping our fingers crossed, we want him to be 100 per cent fit. We don’t want to bring an undercooked Shami to Australia, that is not going to be the right decision for us."
Following the conclusion of this press conference Mohammed Shami was at the stadium for his rehab practice session because National Academy is in Bangalore only where the 1st Test Match also took place, coincidently Shami arrived before the press conference and listened to the captain's remarks on him and went for his drills, if you guys could remember at that time photos & videos of him also went viral on the internet when he was bowling to India’s batting coach Abhishek Nayar in the Nets, that photos were from this very day only.
Above is the photo proof, in which Mohammed Shami was seen bowling to Abhishek Nayar at the centre wicket of M Chinnaswamy Stadium just hours after the first Test between India and New Zealand ended in Bengaluru.
One of our sources told us that after the completion of his drills, Shami went to Rohit Sharma on the ground and had a very loud heated argument about his statements given to the press based on Shami’s fitness for the Australia Tour, it is believed since then both the players are not on the good terms with each other.
Mohammed Shami is currently playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and has already played 7 games bowling full quotas of his overs and fielding almost all the games with no signs of any restrain & pain, looked all good to join the Indian squad in Australia for the remainder of the series but when Captain Rohit Sharma was asked about his availability again in the presser 2 days ago from today after losing the 2nd test at Adelaide he said-
"Definitely, that door is very much open. But we are just monitoring him because while playing in Syed Mushtaq Ali (Trophy), he again got some swelling in his knee,” Rohit said. It obviously hampers his preparation to come and play a Test. We want to be very careful, we don’t want to bring him here in a situation where he plays and he pulls up sore. We want to be 100 percent sure with him. It has been such a long time that he has not played cricket, and to be fair to him, we don’t want to put pressure on him to come here and do the job for the team."
It came as a shocker to everyone as Shami played a pre -quarter-final match against Chandigarh yesterday making 32 runs from the bat from 17 balls and bowled full 4 overs with 1 wicket also to his name and making Bengal to rise at the top in the match.
Shami also posted this cryptic story on his Instagram also which shows his valiant efforts in the match -
All these things just add fuel to the fact that everything is not on the right level between the Indian Test Team captain and his player due to an ego clash perhaps which is leading to Shami’s delayed Test Comeback.
